Notice Boards

Notice Boards

Notice boards are a simple and easy way of passing on information and keeping people informed.  Where they are used in large departments the value reduces, but where they are used for individual teams or in areas where there is a lot of passing traffic then the value will increase.

If you place a notice board in a public area such as an office foyer then you will need to be careful about the information included and make sure nothing confidential is posted.

The ideal office notice board is situated within an office near a door where staff can see it as they pass.  Make sure that the content is kept up to date and that someone is put in charge of updating materials at least once a week.  People will stop looking at a notice board that contains out of date material or looks scruffy.

Don’t pin one notice on top of another; each notice should have its own space.  Not only does this mean that less material is included but it also obliges you to think about what is placed on the notice board.

Notice boards can be used for announcing office events, important organisational issues, new regulations/office requirements and possibly for items such as employee recognition.  Don’t use your notice board for long messages or announcements.

Beware silly photographs or the office Christmas party pin ups.  Also watch out for the ‘in’ jokes especially if they are about other members of staff.  This sort of material should not be included in an office notice board.
